International
Airports
In Southern Baja.
One international airport is in the state
capital of La Paz (LAP), with a population of over 200,000. La Paz
is a 1 hour drive from Todos Santos. Both Mexican and US carriers
service this airport. The bulk of the US carriers use La Paz
sparingly except during the high tourist season. Scheduled flights from
the US west coast and Phoenix arrive regularly in La Paz year round.
This airport was recently remodeled. The highways to La Paz' central
areas have been rebuilt.
La Paz International Airport also provides
regular service to Latin America, Mainland Mexico, Central America, the
Caribbean, and Cuba.
Rental cars are available from all the
major firms at the airport. Buses also run regularly from the airport to
downtown La Paz and from there to Todos Santos and to all of the Los
Cabos areas.
New Terminal Building, Los Cabos
Airport
The second international airport
is located just outside of San Jose del Cabo (SJD) and is often called
"Los Cabos" airport. This airport has undergone extensive expansion and
renovation since the federal government sold it to private investors.
The original terminal building, Los Cabos Airport is for America
West Check In.
The original terminal has been remodeled and
expanded while a new completely modern terminal has been built which
houses Alaska Airlines and their partners, including Delta and
Northwest. All major carriers use this airport year round, including
Mexicana, Aero California, Continental, United, American, and America
West.

A new airport concept has been approved by
the local and Federal government. Work to start
shortly.
Located northwest in Cabo San Lucas near the
Pacific Coast, off of Mexican Highway 19 to Todos Santos. This
international airport will provide expansion services to international
carriers and accommodate the current and future growth of the mega
resort areas including the growing Pacific corridor area - along Mexican
Highway #19 to Todos Santos.
A new toll road was completed to SJD. This
road cuts 20 minutes each way off the travel time from Todos Santos so
the airport is now about 1 1/2 hours away. Taxis and buses are always
available to take visitors to hotels along the corridor or into Cabo San
Lucas where other buses are available for the trip to Todos Santos. A
one way taxi ride from SJD to Todos Santos is somewhat negotiable but
typically costs around $100 US. All major car rental firms are
represented in SJD. |
